NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Five-Star+ QB prospect Jared Curtis is the highest-ranked recruit in Vanderbilt history. Something many college football fans never thought they’d ever hear.
Curtis, originally committed to Georgia, flipped to Vanderbilt during the 2026 cycle and now has a chance to start for the Commodores come Week 1. College football prop betting sites have his Heisman odds at a pretty steep +22500, however, nothing is impossible.
Extensive Resume
As the second-highest rated prospect and QB in the 2026 class, Curtis brings an elite background. Through his four years as a high school varsity starter, he posted 9,710 pass yards, 128 TDs, 2,275 rush yards, and 49 rushing TDs.
His list of awards speaks for itself. He’s a two-time Tennessee Division II-A State Champion in 2024 and 2025. He was the Mr. Football runner-up in 2022 and eventually won the award in 2024 when he also won the MaxPreps Tennessee Player of the Year and was named a Junior All-American as well. In 2025, he was named a MaxPreps All-American once again.
While the starting job isn’t his just yet, many analysts are projecting that he beats out junior Blaze Berlowitz and sophomore Whit Muschamp.
Curtis only attempted 13 passes at Vanderbilt's 2026 spring game and completed five of them for 87 yards.
A Chance At History
In the history of college football, a true freshman has never won the Heisman, while only two redshirt freshmen in history have won Johnny Manziel in 2012 at Texas A&M and Jameis Winston in 2013 at Florida State.
The Heisman odds were stacked against both of them as well. In 2012, Manziel didn’t appear on the board until Week 8 of the season and opened at +1200 odds. In 2013, Jameis wasn’t listed on the opening board either, but quickly popped up in Week 2 with +600 odds.
