ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Many consider the American Conference to be the best Group of Six conference of the bunch, with the title game holding its weight, which showed last year with Tulane making the College Football Playoff.
Looking ahead to the 2026-27 season, college football prop betting sites suggest a wide-open field that is up for grabs in the conference. Navy leads the way as the favorite to win its first conference title in program history.

Contenders
Navy: Brian Newberry’s roster has turned a page with two straight 10+ win seasons with the triple option being as lethal as ever. Braxton Woodson steps in with Blake Horvath, who is now graduated. They have high enough hopes to be ranked first in the preseason polls for the conference.
UTSA: The Roadrunners have an experienced roster behind Owen McCown at QB. They lead the conference in returning production and bring in a strong transfer portal class.
Army: Two years removed from their first conference title in history, Army's triple option stays consistent and a top contender in the conference with above .500 records their first two years in the conference.
Tulane: The Green Wave can never be counted out. They lead the conference with four title game appearances at a 2-2 record. This is an experienced roster with junior Kadin Semonza stepping in as QB with notable transfer portal additions in Destyn Hill and Jaylin Lucas to complement the offense.
Mid-Tier
This mid-tier level of teams all have high ceilings with notable additions this offseason, however, keeping them here are roster turnover, new head coaches, and QB battles.
- Memphis: The Tigers feature a new head coach in Charles Huff, who brings in a nice portal class highlighted by former 4-Star QB Air Noland and RB Dallan Hayden. This is a high ceiling, low floor situation due to the inexperience of the roster.
- ECU: Blake Harrell has a strong 14-5 record over his first two seasons with ECU. This is another portal-filled class with Emory Williams and Mitch Griffis battling for QB1, with most of its front seven returning on defense as well. Harrell not being poached away should keep their ceiling high enough to compete.
- South Florida: Arguably the most talked-about team in the conference, South Florida might have the highest upside in the conference. Brian Hartline was hired as the program's next head coach out of Ohio State, and he immediately pulled in the number one transfer portal class in the conference.
- North Texas: We are hesitant to list North Texas in this tier given the turnover, but a conference championship game next season holds them up. Head coach Eric Morris, QB Drew Mestemaker, and running back Caleb Hawkins all jumped ship to Oklahoma State.
Bottom Feeders
Sitting towards the bottom half of college football sportsbooks CUSA boards are FAU, Tulsa, Rice, Temple, Charlotte, and UAB. All of which suffered either major coaching changes or high roster turnover.
