Ohio State Open as CFP Favorite, but Value Sits a Tier Below

  • Ohio State opened as the national-title favorite at +550 at BetOnline, with seven teams priced at +900 or shorter.
  • Arch Manning leads a quarterback-heavy Heisman board at +650, with Notre Dame’s CJ Carr next at +700.
  • Texas is the board’s clearest disconnect, priced second at +600 yet carrying just a 9.5-win regular-season total.
  • The SEC’s new nine-game conference schedule caps its contenders’ win totals, holding Texas and Georgia to 9.5.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Fall camps open in August, but the futures market for the 2026 college football season is already live. Ohio State the national-title favorite at +550 at BetOnline atop a top tier so compressed that seven teams sit at +900 or shorter.

A Compressed Title Tier

BetOnline’s board opens Ohio State at +550, Texas at +600 and Notre Dame at +650, with Oregon and Indiana both at +800 and Georgia and Miami at +900, the national-championship futures show. Bovada opened the same fight at the top, listing Ohio State and Notre Dame level as co-favorites. With all seven priced at +900 or shorter, the title projects as a near coin-flip tier, which means the value is not on the favorite but a rung below it. These futures boards are among the busiest markets in college football betting this fall.

Texas is the tell. BetOnline prices the Longhorns at +600, second on the board, yet the same market sets their regular-season win total at just 9.5. A team the book itself expects to lose two or three games rarely wins a national title, which makes the short Texas price the softest number in the top tier.

The Heisman Board Is All Quarterbacks

BetOnline’s Heisman board runs quarterback after quarterback. Arch Manning leads at +650, Notre Dame’s CJ Carr sits at +700, Oregon’s Dante Moore at +800, and the Ohio State pair of Jeremiah Smith and Julian Sayin share +900.

Manning entered 2025 as the preseason Heisman favorite and did not deliver, so +650 prices reputation as much as production. Carr sits just behind at +700 while quarterbacking Notre Dame, the team with the country’s highest win total and a clear playoff path. Those wins and that national exposure are what actually swing the Heisman vote, which makes Carr the better number at nearly the same price.

Smith is the best player on the board and still a hard Heisman bet at +900. A wide receiver has won the trophy just twice since 1991, and Ohio State’s two contenders split the same offense, cannibalizing each other’s production and the vote.

Win Totals And The SEC Drag

Notre Dame stands alone at 11.5, the only team in the country set that high, per the win-total market. It reflects a playoff-caliber roster and an independent schedule with no conference title game to navigate. Oregon, Indiana and Miami follow at 10.5.

The SEC’s contenders sit lower by design. Texas and Georgia open at 9.5 and Alabama and LSU at 8.5, held down by the league’s new nine-game conference schedule. Ohio State, the title favorite, is set at just 9.5 itself, with heavy juice to the Under. That schedule drag is the context a casual bettor misses, and it quietly props up SEC title prices relative to the records the same books project.
