CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - A human resources complaint from a former front-office employee has put North Carolina general manager Michael Lombardi on paid administrative leave, the school said Monday, three days before the Tar Heels open fall camp.
What The School Said, And What It Would Not Say
The school said in a statement that Lombardi "is on paid administrative leave, effective immediately." Because it is a personnel matter, the statement added, "leadership, staff, and student-athletes are prohibited from addressing this topic further." The complaint came from an employee Lombardi had terminated. Carolina has not said how long the leave will run, who handles the job in the interim, or when the investigation ends.
Lombardi arrived in December 2024 as part of Bill Belichick's move from the NFL to Chapel Hill, having worked under him with the New England Patriots and run the Cleveland Browns as general manager. He is the executive who cast Carolina as pro football's 33rd team, and the front office he built assembled the roster reporting Thursday.
