Tommy Rees, the 2023 Alabama offensive coordinator and now the offensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns, is one of the many coaches with odds to replace Coach DeBoer who may be considered due to their past ties to the Crimson Tide football program or their connection to the famed former head coach Nick Saban. Some other notable candidates with ties to the program include:

  • Glenn Schumann (+400): Started as an Alabama undergraduate analyst in 2008 and worked in a variety of roles through 2015 before joining the coaching staff at Georgia. He is now their defensive coordinator.
  • Lane Kiffin (+500): Coach Kiffin was the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach from 2014 through 2016. He is now the head coach at Ole Miss.
  • Deion Sanders (+800): He never coached at Alabama or played under Nick Saban, but Coach Prime and Coach Saban are famously good friends and have appeared together in Aflac commercials. Deion Sanders is in his third year as the head coach at Colorado.
  • JaMarcus Shephard (+1000): Coach Shephard is the current assistant head coach/wide receivers coach at Alabama. He has been with the Crimson Tide since the start of last season. He may not be an excellent bet at betting sites with college football prop specials because of his ties to Coach DeBore, who would have to be fired for the head coaching job to open up.
  • Shaun Dion Hamilton (+1000): A four-year player under Nick Saban at Alabama from 2014 through 2017, Shaun Dion Hamilton is considered one of the fastest-rising coaches in both the NFL and college football. He is only 29 years old and is the linebackers coach for the Detroit Lions.
  • Jimbo Fisher (+1200): The 2014 National Championship-winning head coach while at Florida State, Jimbo Fisher was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Nick Saban at LSU from 2000 through 2004. Coach Fischer is currently working for ACC Network, but has expressed interest in returning to the sidelines as a coach.
  • DeMeco Ryans (+1400): Another former linebacker who played at Alabama, DeMeco Ryans is the head coach for the Houston Texans in the NFL. Coach Ryans was the 2005 SEC Defensive Player of the Year while playing in Tuscaloosa, and has gone on to be a very successful coach in the NFL following his professional playing career, which lasted from 2006 to 2015.
  • Curt Cignetti (+2500): The current head coach at Indiana, Curt Cignetti, was the wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator at Alabama from 2007 through 2010.
  • Dan Lanning (+4000): Dan Lanning has been the head coach at Oregon since 2022. He spent one year with the Crimson Tide as a graduate assistant in 2015.
  • Kirby Smart (+5000): The current head coach at his alma mater, Georgia, Kirby Smart worked under Nick Saban at LSU (defensive backs coach), with the Miami Dolphins (safeties coach), and at Alabama (from 2007-2015, with most of that time spent as the defensive coordinator).
  • Steve Sarkisian (+5000): Steve Sarkisian had two stints coaching under Nick Saban at Alabama. One came in 2016 as an analyst and offensive coordinator for one game, and the other was as offensive coordinator in 2019 and 2020. He is now the head coach at Texas.
  • Dabo Swinney (+5000): An Alabama alumnus who played for the team from 1990 and 1992, Dabo Swinney got his coaching career with the Crimson Tide as well. Dabo Swinney is the current head coach at Clemson, where he has won two National Championships.

It may be worthwhile to wager on a coach with ties to Nick Saban and/or Alabama at college football prop betting sites because of the program’s past success that they have not been able to replicate so far under Kalen DeBoer.

That high standard was not lived up to this past weekend when the Crimson Tide lost to Florida State 31 to 17. The Tide’s performance resulted in them dropping from 8th to 21st in the new AP Poll.
