Brent Brennan Given Shortest Odds To Be First Coach Fired

  • Brent Brennan of the Arizona Wildcats has the shortest odds of any coach in the Power 4 conferences to be fired first this season.
  • Brent Venables, Sam Pittman, Brent Pry, and Hugh Freeze all have odds at +800 or lower to be the first coach fired.

TUCSON, Ariz. – In a time of hope for college football fans as the new season is set to kick off, some programs may be in for a reality check, starting with the head coach position. Here are the six Power 4 conference coaches with the shortest odds to be fired first this season.

First Power 4 Conference Coach Fired Odds

  • Brent Brennan - Arizona +400
  • Brent Venables - Oklahoma +600
  • Sam Pittman - Arkansas +700
  • Brent Pry - Virginia Tech +700
  • Hugh Freeze - Auburn +800
  • Scott Satterfield - Cincinnati +1000

College football specials list Brent Brennan of the Arizona Wildcats as the coach with the shortest odds to be fired first, followed by Brent Venables of Oklahoma and Sam Pittman of Arkansas.

Brennan and the Wildcats got off to a strong start last season, going 3-1 in their first four games including a massive upset over the 10th ranked Utah Utes on the road. However, things went downhill quickly for Arizona, as they would go on to lose seven of their last eight to finish the season with a 4-8 record.

Brent Venables was brought to Oklahoma from Clemson in hopes of returning the program to prominence in the college football landscape, which has flat out not been the case.

Since taking the head coaching job for the Sooners in 2022, Venables has logged a measly 22-17 record and gone 0-3 in three bowl game appearances. Coming off a 6-7 season with a 2-6 record in conference play, it is safe to say Venables is on the hot seat.

Another underperforming SEC team has been the Arkansas Razorbacks, who finished last season 7-6 while going 3-5 in conference play. Since hiring head coach Sam Pittman in 2020, the Razorbacks have had just one season where they finished with a top 25 ranking and have gone 30-31 overall.

Brent Pry has had just one winning season at Virginia Tech since taking over in 2022 and sits below .500 in both conference play and overall. He inherited a 6-7 Hokies team when he took over and has not finished better than 7-6 in any season.

Hugh Freeze has been the head coach for the Auburn Tigers for just two seasons but already finds himself on the hot seat after two disappointing seasons, sitting at 11-14 overall and 5-11 in conference play.

Freeze had success coaching Liberty, finishing each of his four seasons there with a winning record, but a program like Auburn has bigger aspirations than just finishing with a record over .500.

Scott Satterfield has been largely mediocre as a Power 4 head coach after leading Appalachian State to five straight winning seasons, going 25-24 over four seasons at Louisville and 8-16 so far with the Cincinnati Bearcats.

Satterfield was hired to replace Luke Fickell, who led the team to the College Football Playoff in 2021 and has not been able to reestablish the program as a contender.
