- LSU is favored to beat Florida with a 7-point spread set for the game.
- Florida lost to unranked USF in Week 2.
- Billy Napier has the third shortest odds to be the first head coach fired.
BATON ROUGE, La. – In the primetime hours of the Week 3 college football slate, it’s the SEC season opener for both the Florida Gators and #3 ranked LSU Tigers from Death Valley in Baton Rouge.
This game had the potential of being a top-15 matchup. That was until then #13 Florida suffered a loss at home to a then unranked USF Bulls team. Fast track to Week 3 and the Florida Gators find themselves unranked and now heading into Tiger Stadium at night against the #3 ranked team in the country.
All that said, though, oddsmakers have listed just a touchdown margin on college football prop betting sites for this one in favor of LSU. Before jumping on the LSU bandwagon to cover here, there is reason to believe that the Gators could keep this one competitive.
Florida Vs. LSU
- Moneyline: Florida (+225) vs. LSU (-275)
- Spread: LSU -7
- Total: 47
Going into this one, even this early in the season, Florida needs to not only treat this game as a playoff elimination game, but every game the rest of the way as well. With that mentality, expect Florida to play extremely tough to start things off in conference play.
Last season, in situations as the away team, they were one of the better teams in the country against the spread, going 3-1 with an average cover margin of +2.8 points and a minor losing margin of -0.3 points. This same Gators team also did beat LSU 27-16 just a season ago.
What’s At Stake For Billy Napier?
It’s hard to imagine that if the Gators lose this one in blowout fashion, Napier will make it through the weekend. Currently, college football sportsbooks are giving him the third shortest odds at +500 to be the first head coach fired this season.
Florida came into the season with extremely high expectations both in the rankings and within the inner circle of the team. There is still time for them to live up to those expectations with eight ranked opponents currently left on their schedule.
