SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Along with North Dakota State, the Sacramento State Hornets also made the jump from FCS to FBS and will compete in the Mid-American Conference this season and get a taste of MACtion.
While they are joining one of the lower G6 conferences in the country, college football prop betting sites are not high on them. They are not currently listed on the board to win the National Championship and have +5000 odds to win the MAC, the third-worst odds in the conference.
Struggles Ahead
The jump from FCS to FBS may not be so kind to the Hornets, who have plenty of questions surrounding their program this season, hence the rough odds for prop betting in California. Starting with the first year head coach Alonzo Carter. Carter comes over from Arizona, where he was the assistant coach and running backs coach. In his first offseason, he brings in eight new starters on offense and seven on defense.
Historically, Sacramento State is not considered a powerhouse program. Since 1993, when they first entered the FCS, they have held a 144-207-1 record. They have just four conference titles and four FCS playoff appearances as well.
However, most of their success has come since 2019, which marked their first playoff appearance, followed by their first playoff win in 2022.
Who To Watch
Starting at QB, Carson Conklin is a name that all around Sacramento State should know. Conklin spent 2023 and 2024 with the Hornets before transferring to Fresno State last season. Conklin started in 2024, where he put up 2,858 yards and 28 TDs in his first year as the full-time starter.
The pieces around him are all hit or miss with Matt Coleman and Raiden Brown at wide receiver. Coleman had less than 200 yards last season at San Jose State, while Brown comes over from Idaho State in the FCS.
The backfield also has some questions in Davion Godley, who is listed as the starter with Cincere Rhaney behind him. Godley was the starter at Weber State last season and totaled 512 yards and four TDs.
