Ole Miss has a lot to be mad about coming into this one. They had an ugly divorce with Lane Kiffin, and their deep playoff run ended in a 31-27 semifinal loss to Miami on a last-second touchdown.
Coming into the season, the core of the offense around Trinidad Chambliss remains strong. Kewan Lacy is arguably the best running back in the country, and receiver Deuce Alexander jumps into the WR1 role. While Ole Miss did lose receivers Harrison Wallace and De’Zhaun Stribling, they signed Johntay Cook and Darrell Gill from the portal. Both are coming off 500+ yards at Syracuse last season.
In the three games that Pete Golding coached through the college football playoff last season, they averaged 35.6 points.
Premature Hype On Louisville
There is plenty to be excited about for Louisville this season. QB Lincoln Kienholz has earned high praise through the offseason, while Tre Richardson and Lawayne McCoy were highly touted receiver transfers.
In the backfield, Isaac Brown comes into the season fully healthy after dealing with a leg injury last season that limited him to 884 yards and seven touchdowns. His explosiveness remained on full display, though, as he led the nation with 8.8 yards per carry.
While these are all big names, they’ve yet to play with each other in a real game, and now they get a tough test against an experienced Ole Miss team.
Given the experience factor alone, we’re leaning on Ole Miss to cover in this one on Mississippi sportsbooks. Trinidad Chambliss is a preseason Heisman finalist for a reason. There could be some potential on the over 55 mark as well.
