Indiana sportsbooks fading Hoover throwing for over 3,000 yards is questionable. He’s thrown for over 3,400 yards in each of the last two seasons with over 400 attempts each year. He now steps into an offense that averaged 239.1 pass yards per game last season behind Fernando Mendoza’s 3,535 pass yards.
While many are quick to point out that Indiana lost its top two receivers in Omar Cooper and Elijah Sarratt, they return Charlie Becker, who’s coming off 679 yards last season. Through the transfer portal, Nick Marsh from Michigan State and Shazz Preston from Tulane both committed. Marsh went for 662 yards in 2025 while Preston went for 723 yards.
It’s also worth noting that Mendoza put up 3,500+ yards last season, all while the Hoosiers averaged just a 39.28% pass play percentage. However, they had two 1,000+ yard running backs to lean back on in Roman Hemby and Kaelon Black, who are both now in the NFL.
Between the new look receiving core, the running back room losing two major pieces, and Hoover’s proven track record already, he could be set up for a career season.
