MIAMI – After a crazy Week 2 of college football, oddsmakers were beyond busy updating the Heisman board. The top of the board remains the same, with Darian Mensah still favored to win at +500, a minor shift down from last week.
College football prop betting sites continue to push Mensah at the top. He’s coming off a 77-7 win in Week 2 over FAMU where he totaled 252 yards and three touchdowns while completing 14/15 passes. For the season, he has 653 yards and eight touchdowns with just four total incompletions.
Heisman Risers
The two biggest names that made their way up the board are Jeremiah Smith and Arch Manning. Smith moved from +1100 to +750, the second-highest on the board. Manning’s jump was lighter, going from +1000 to +900.
The two faced off this week as Texas completed a historic comeback against No. 1-ranked Ohio State. Smith led all receivers with 164 yards and a touchdown on eight receptions, bringing his season total to 315 yards and three touchdowns.
Manning’s rise on Texas sportsbooks was more off the team’s performance rather than just him alone. He completed 23/37 attempts for 195 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Through the first two weeks, he has 500 pass yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions.
Heisman Fallers
On the contrary, two of college football’s biggest names in Oregon QB Dante Moore and LSU QB Sam Leavitt took significant hits. Moore dropped from +1200 to +4500 while Leavitt fell from +1500 to +3300 on college football sportsbooks.
Moore’s was more on the team’s performance rather than his own, with No. 6 Oregon losing to unranked Oklahoma State. It was a quiet game for Moore, who completed 14/29 passes for 191 yards and two touchdowns and was sacked four times. For the season, his numbers are still Heisman-worthy at 569 yards and five touchdowns.
Leavitt’s fall was a performance issue. He looked like an elite Heisman candidate in Week 1, throwing for 230 yards, rushing for 113 yards, and totaling three touchdowns against Clemson. In Week 2 against a significantly weaker opponent in Louisiana Tech, his 344 passing yards were the only bright spot. He finished the game with a single passing touchdown and three interceptions. He rushed for just 22 yards on 11 carries, however, he did add three more rushing touchdowns.
