LUBBOCK, Texas – No Brendan Sorsby, no problem. Despite all of the offseason drama surrounding the Red Raiders and Sorsby now off the NFL Supplemental Draft, they are heavily favored to win the 2026-27 Big 12 Championship.
College football prop betting sites have Texas Tech listed as a -105 favorite with only BYU and Utah trailing within “striking” distance as the only other teams listed under +1000 to win the conference.

Texas Tech backed their Big 12 championship run last season by signing the number two overall transfer portal class and 19th-ranked recruiting class, both of which led the conference.
The highlight of the offense is sophomore QB Will Hammond, who saw significant snaps in 2024 and 2025. He’ll serve as QB1 with Sorsby’s gambling issues pushing him to hit the NFL.
Last season, he played the second half against Utah, going 13/16 for 169 yards and two touchdowns. He started two games later on in the season against Arizona State and Oklahoma State, going 1-1, throwing for 269 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception across both outings.
BYU’s Stance
The case for BYU on Utah sportsbooks is that they have arguably the best QB in the conference in Bear Bachmeier, who is coming off a true freshman campaign throwing for over 3,000 yards and 26 total touchdowns.
They’re returning several starters on defense as well, a unit that allowed less than 20 ppg to opponents last season while making key additions in CB Jayven Williams from Mississippi State and LB Cade Uluave from Cal.
Utah Running It Back
The Utes are running things back with Devon Dampier under center, along with most of their offensive and defensive starters. They were the leading offense and second-ranked defense in the Big 12 last season.
They’ll face some notable holes, though, as head coach Kyle Whittingham is off to Michigan and taking John Henry Daly with him, who led the team with 11.5 sacks last season.
