HOUSTON – The Big 12 conference play begins on Friday with the Colorado Buffaloes on the road against the Houston Cougars, where Houston is a decent sized home team favorite going in.

Despite their overall struggles in recent seasons, Houston has gotten off to a hot start to their season, going 2-0, while Colorado has gone 1-1 to start their year. This has led to college football prop betting sites sitting in favor of Houston to start conference play.

Back Houston On Alternate Spread For Plus Money

Houston should run away with this one and for several reasons. That said, we’re leaning on an alternate spread for the Cougars to cover a 6.5-point spread at +105 college football odds.

Going back to just how hot of a start Houston has gotten off to, they’ve averaged 31 ppg to start, which is more than double their Big 12 worst 14 ppg last season. Their defense has also been on point, allowing just nine points through both of those games. They’ve also hit big on junior QB transfer Conner Weigman, who’s totaled 347 yards, four touchdowns, and a rushing TD in two games as well.

Where things get interesting here is on the Colorado side, where there have been reports of a quarterback change. It was Kaidon Salter who started the season for the Buffs, however, in Week 2 against Delaware, we saw Salter hit the bench in the second quarter for five star freshman Julian Lewis. Lewis was then benched for third string QB and former backup to Shedeur Sanders last season, Ryan Staub, who came in and went 7/10 for 158 yards and two touchdowns.

Given that this is the indication, but Coach Prime has yet to confirm or deny the reports, it leads us to back Houston here in what should be a dumpster fire of a performance for Colorado.
